Sunscreens are an essential part of every skincare regimen. They play a crucial role in shielding the skin from UV radiation’s immediate and long-term impacts. The following are some facts regarding sunscreens to be aware of:

  1. UV Radiation Types

  • Ultraviolet A, or UVA radiation, is not directly absorbed by the skin. Rather, it causes immunosuppression, photoaging, and tanning by penetrating the skin deeper.
  • UVB radiation, also known as ultraviolet B, causes sunburn and other skin damage because it is directly absorbed by the skin.

    2. Sunscreen Classification

Organic sunscreens: These sunscreens absorb UV rays and alter their chemical composition in the process. Salicylates, cinnamates, and PABA derivatives are a few examples of organic sunscreens

    3. The range of ultraviolet radiation

The most serious harm is caused by UVB radiation. Compared to UVB radiation, UVA radiation has a deeper penetration.

    4. Sunscreens and the Formation of Vitamin D

  •  The skin produces more than 90% of its vitamin D from UVB exposure.
  •  Vitamin D deficiency is not typically brought on by sunscreen use

    5. Agents for Systemic Photoprotection

  •  Systemic sunscreens is another name for these compounds.
  • Systemic photoprotective drugs include beta-carotene, green tea polyphenols, α-tocopherols (vitamins A, C, and E), ascorbic acid, retinol, selenium, and antimalarials.
